Situated in St. George, the New York Wheel project is part of a $1.2-billion-dollar investment to redevelop the area within Staten Island in order to appeal to both locals and visitors in the area. It will become the world’s largest observation wheel.

Built in response to the New York City Economic Development Corp’s aim to increase economic growth and overlooking New York harbour, a multitude of companies have come on board to ensure the project is delivered on time and on budget. Mammoet are working alongside Starneth to form Mammoet-Starneth LLC, alongside AKRF, Vidaris, CosentiniGilbane and many more who are working in collaboration to ensure the project's completion.

Twice the height of the Statue of Liberty, the build will be constructed close to Statten Island Ferry Terminal and is predicted to attract over three million visitors per annum.  Built to incorporate LED lighting, 36 built pods will accommodate 40 people per pod, at which individual rides will be around 40 minutes. The construction can hold over a thousand people at a time and can also be reserved for special occasions. The attraction will be open seven days a week to cater to predicted demand.

Creating around 350 construction jobs, the 630ft project will provide iconic views of New York’s skyline and become one of New York’s most popular tourist attractions. In order to ensure the attraction’s success, a number of ferry services will provide services to ensure visitors from various locations in New York will be able to access the area.

Not only is the main attraction set to become a success, the importance of sustainability and long-term ecological benefits have been embedded within the plans of the site. A sustainability exhibit will be situated on the site, alongside event space which can accommodate around 5,000 people, in addition to approximately five acres of grass and event space.
