The five eco building ideas that have made the shortlist of Ecobuild's Big Innovation Pitch have been revealed. The competition, organised in conjunction with Marks & Spencer, aims to discover green construction solutions that will help in the creation of a sustainable built environment.

The finalists:

Actimass Ltd - providers of thermal mass solutions

Air2eau - which ‘creates water out of thin air’

Skanska Facilities Services - bespoke facilities management

Tadpole Energy Ltd - specialist heating efficiency

Waterblade - a water-saving fitting

The companies will now make a final pitch to the judges on the final day of Ecobuild, a London-based conference and exhibition, with the winner getting the chance to take their product innovation further with M&S.

Chris Marney, Head of Engineering & Energy at M&S and one of the judging team, commented: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to the Big Innovation Pitch 2016 both in terms of the number and quality of applications. Each of the shortlisted entrants in particular showed ingenuity to develop a product or service that is addressing a real-life issue and spoke with real passion for their future applications. We look forward to hearing the pitches of the five finalists at Ecobuild 2016 and selecting the overall winner.”
