Hadrian X: bricklaying robot to build demo homes

Fastbrick Australia aiming to introduce 'Wall-as-a-Service' solution with bricklaying robot Hadrian X

Fastbrick Australia, a joint venture between Hadrian X inventor Fastbrick Robotics (FBR) and building supplies company Brickworks to introduce “Wall-as-a-Service” solution.

Hadrian X is a unique construction robot mounted into a classic cab over engine truck to easily transport it to and from a location for on-site building. The robot component could also be mounted onto other bases such as tracks, barges, boats and cranes to bring this unique capability to a range of environments.

FBR has entered into a Building Pilot Program Agreement with Summit Homes Groupin Western Australia. The venture allows FBR to demonstrate to a customer the speed, accuracy, safety, quality, waste profile and reliability of the Hadrian X construction robot in a low-risk environment, as well as the performance of the new Hadrian-optimised blocks developed and supplied by Brickworks. Fastbrick Australia intends to enter into similar pilot program arrangements with other WaaS (Wall-as-a-Service) customers as part of its commercialisation strategy.

FBR has also teamed up with GP Vivienda, the housing division of Mexican construction giant Grupo GP, to test robot-built structures and the viability of FBR’s adhesive in use with blocks common in Mexico. 

Commenting on the Mexican agreement, FBR’s global managing director and chief executive Mike Pivac said: “FBR sees the Hadrian X as part of the solution to Mexico’s acute shortage of well-constructed affordable homes, with a deficit of approximately 8.3 million affordable homes in the country.”

Hadrian X features Dynamic Stabilisation Technology (DST) which reacts to wind, vibration and other environmental factors instantly, enabling precise positioning of objects over large distances outside. DST delivers accuracy previously only achievable with indoor robots, paving the way for robotic automation outdoors.
