Apple sparked a wave of controversy this week after news broke that it had banned convicted felons from working on the construction site of ‘Campus 2’ in Cupertino.

Today however, it seems Apple is backtracking on its policy and released a statement saying that there was never a blanket policy against hiring people with felony convictions, but that the background process for the “Apple Campus 2” project ended up turning away some applicants because of felony convictions in the past seven years.

“We believe in opportunity for everyone,” the statement read.

Moving forward the company will evaluate all applicants on a case-by-case basis.
