Ourense University Hospital

Ferrovial through its Services subsidiary, has won a €146m contract to deliver a range of non-medical services at the Ourense University Hospital Complex in Galicia. The company will provide energy, maintenance, cleaning and security services at the complex’s three hospitals for 15 years.

The contract, awarded by the Galicia Regional Government Health Service, encompasses energy supply, maintenance, cleaning and security services for the Nosa Señora do Cristal, Santa María Nai and Santo Cristo de Piñor hospitals. The complex has an extension of 119,566 sqm and 852 beds. It will employ about 3,000 people.

The company will upgrade the facilities to optimise energy efficiency, at no cost to the Administration, with the aim of reducing primary energy consumption by more than 15 percent, while CO2 emissions will be reduced by more than 53 percent. Ferrovial Services will also implement quality indicators for the services and supplies and will report regularly on attainment of the targets.

Ignacio Gastón, General Manager of Ferrovial Services Spain, said the contract would strengthen Ferrovial Services’ position in the hospital management area.

The company is currently expanding and upgrading the Valdecilla Hospital in Santander and delivering non-medical services there under a 20-year contract. It is also in charge of maintenance of the La Paz hospital in Madrid and Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville.

Ferrovial Services describes itself as a key player in the field of energy efficiency, pointing to its agreement with the City of Bilbao to manage sports facilities under Bilbao Kirolak, where it has cut energy costs by 25 percent while reducing gas consumption by 38 percent and electricity consumption by 15 percent. The company also has a co-operation agreement with MIT to develop projects aimed at improving energy efficiency in buildings and public lighting systems.
