HS2 launches bid prequalification for Birmingham Curzon Street

High Speed Two (HS2), the high-speed railway construction project connecting the UK, has announced the launch of bid prequalification for the Birmingham Curzon Street station.

HS2 revealed that around four companies will be shortlisted for the design and construction of the station, which is set to cost £435mn (US$560mn).

WSP UK, the consultancy firm, and Grimshaw Architects have partnered over the design of the project.

The designs include seven high-speed platforms in a low-arched building structure made from steel and timber.

The Curzon Street station is anticipated to be operational by 2026, and will be the first new intercity station built in the UK since the 19th century.

The deadline for prequalification document submission is set for 17 January 2019, ahead of the bid in May.

HS2 will announce the successful contractor in the second quarter of 2020, and is set to reveals the winner of the London Euston and Old Oak Common stations before the end of 2018.
