Rockwell lands approval for construction of London tower block

Property development firm Rockwell has announced that it has received approval from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to construct its mixed-use tower at 82 West India Dock Road, London

In the firm’s statement, Rockwell said the approval grants it the opportunity to rejuvenate a derelict site, and mark “Westferry as a destination in its own right.”

Rockwell expects the project will generate £172mn for the local economy simply through construction, with considerable dividends to reap on completion.

The tower will incorporate a 400-room hotel, 66  homes, and a retail space to cater to a deficit in the area’s visitor accommodation offerings.

35% of the new homes will be “affordable in perpetuity for local families”, with each of the one, two, and three-bed tenure-blind apartments designed to an impeccably high standard.

Rockwell also said that the project will create 259 new jobs in the hospitality and leisure industry.
