“We are very pleased to take part in the Jawa 1 power plant project, which will contribute to energy development in Indonesia,” said Sechul Oh, Head of Samsung C&T’s Plant Business Unit. “Based on Samsung C&T’s core values of quality and safety, we look forward to delivering a successful project together with our partners.”

Jawa 1, expected to become the biggest combined cycle power plant in the whole of Southeast Asia, is part of the Indonesian government’s 35,000MW electrification program. Once complete, the plant is expected to provide power to 11mn homes.

Samsung C&T has been provided the contract in the wake of its previous successes, having already completed the construction of the Muara Tawar power plant in Indonesia, the Dongducheon CCPP and Kumho CHP-S1 projects in Korea and the EMAL Phase2 CCPP and Shuweihat 2 CCPP in the UAE.

In carrying out the construction, Samsung C&T will sign a consortium agreement with General Electric (GE) and Meindo Elang.
