WASHINGTON, June 24, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- In an age when journalism ethics are called into question on a daily bias, this lawsuit looms large. Natalie Delgadillo, a staff reporter for DCist is accused of shoddy, immoral and illegal journalism that has led to a $25,000,000 lawsuit filed against her and American University. "Delgadillo is accused of violating the Fair Report Privilege as AU executives turned a blind eye to her unconscionable and reckless behavior," said Stephen Sieber, a Plaintiff in the lawsuit. "Delgadillo appears to be a mouthpiece for high ranking government officials who spoon fed her false and defamatory statements that were re-published in her story without verifying the truth of the statements or asking Plaintiffs for comment before blasting the libelous content all over the internet," said Stephen Sieber. "The reckless conduct of Delgadillo and American University have wrongfully defamed me and my company that took me over a decade to build," said Precision Contracting Solutions owner Derrick Sieber.
The lawsuit includes an under oath declaration by Delgadillo wherein she admits that the Office of the Attorney General read the first version of her story published on the internet and then called her directly, ten minutes after publication, to tell her to change her story and add specific unverified and false content that Assistant AG Richard Rodriguez mandated be published and Delgadillo did so in a second version. The Office of the Attorney General is also being sued, as is AG Karl A. Racine and Assistant AG Richard Rodriguez personally.
This lawsuit in standing up against "Fake News". It is essential that reporters maintain their ethics and impartiality when government wants a story published to its specifications, especially when its intentionally false. "Delgadillo and American University deserve to be sued and we are confident of a landmark victory with a legal precedent being established for violating the Fair Report Privilege when publishing Fake News. Delgadillo's actions were and continue to be supported by American University which is a disgrace to the institutions core principals of integrity and honor," Stephen Sieber said.
