A Houston construction worker was hospitalised yesterday after being impaled in the chest by a detached circular blade from a power saw.

The Houston Fire Department said the man was working on a building close to the Galleria shopping center when the blade shattered and a piece of it entered his chest.

Paramedics arrived, and secured the victim before lifting him from the roof of the building using a Houston Fire Department ladder truck.

Witnesses said the worker was going in and out of consciousness during his transportation to hospital, but was in a stable condition.

Officials said the particular variety of blade can become dislodged while cutting a hard material if it is not secured tightly.
