Construction of the 46,000 seater Arena da Amaznia, between 2010 and December 2014, saw the stadium ready to host football World Cup matches just in time, albeit with concerns over the quality of the pitch.
Building costs ran to 173m, and construction took place on the site of the old Vivaldo stadium. The contractor was Andrade Gutierrez, Brazil's second largest construction company.
