J. Safra Group and Foster + Partners reveal plans for London’s Tulip

J. Safra Group, the Brazil-headquartered conglomerate and owner of London’s Gherkin, has revealed plans for the UK’s latest tower development.

The building, with has been dubbed the Tulip, has been designed by the British architects Foster + Partners.

J. Safra Group has submitted a planning application for the Tulip with the City of London Corporation, meaning construction on project could begin as early as 2020 and finish by 2025.

The 305.3 metre tower will feature an education centre with the capacity to host 20,000 school children per annum.

The building will be the tallest structure in the square mile, and will also feature viewing galleries offering 360-degree views of the capital city.

“The viewing galleries will offer visitors an engaging experience with sky bridges, internal glass slides and gondola pod rides on the building’s façade that will appeal to people across all age groups,” Foster Partners stated.

“Visitors will benefit from interactive materials and briefings from expert guides about the history of London.”

“Complementing the experience will be a sky bar and restaurants with 360-degree views of the city.”

The Tulip will stand next to the Gherkin in London’s primary financial district.

“Completed in 2004, 30 St Mary Axe, now popularly known as The Gherkin, made a positive contribution at ground level by breathing life into its surroundings. The Tulip seeks to extend the site’s public realm further.”
